The GOCN has become an Affiliate Organization of the Society of Biblical Leadership (SBL), which more firmly establishes its Forum on Missional Hermeneutics as a part of the annual SBL meeting each November. In light of that, the leadership of the Forum has issued the following Call for Papers.

The annual GOCN conversations "Toward a Missional Hermeneutic" were held in November 2008 on two dates and at two venues, because the AAR and SBL academic societies ceased meeting jointly as they had in the past. The 2008 Missional Hermeneutic sessions in Chicago (November 1) and Boston (November 22) respectively reviewed the previous six years of the conversation and pointed the way toward the future.

WELCOME to this refurbished GOCN website, loaded with new potential for the kind of vigorous exchange that can fashion faithfulness. The site is dedicated to these two themes: the gospel’s encounter with our North American culture, and the faithful witness of local missional communities.

In February 2008, Judy concluded fourteen years of faithful service to this always awkward, sometimes bewildering, but ultimately vital thing called a network. A sister to all of us (and when necessary, a mother!), she served with grace in the variety of roles she filled.

Based on a series of breakfast conversations at AAR/SBL from 2002-2004 hosted by Tyndale Seminary (Toronto) and a series of Additional Meetings at AAR/SBL from 2005-2007, the GOCN will continue to host this conversation at the AAR and SBL during their separate meeting schedules the next three years and their joint venue in years following.
